Age is just a number, right? Until you stop and think about what that number represents, then it is so much more than just a number. Papa/Dad turned 69 years old in December and it makes me shake my head to say that out loud! He, in many ways, seems so much younger than that! He is up with the sun, drives the boys to school several mornings of the week, he accompanies my mom to all her tombstone group work AND even participates, he plays basketball outside with Luke, he helps me carry in the groceries, lends a hand, lends his chauffeuring skills, he gives me bear hugs just like he did when I was little. Surely he cannot be almost 70?! Oh wait, I forgot about those grumpy days.....
We celebrated his birthday at PF Chang's......a little bit of a surprise for him. We gave him a song and dance story about being busy with something else (which actually isn't all that far fetched to believe....we're always busy!) and we went on our merry way...to the restaurant. We all sat with menus in front of our faces as the waitress weaved her way towards the table with my mom and dad in tow, but it didn't stump him for longer than, oh....5 seconds?? A table for 9 is pretty hard to overlook. We had fun 'trying' though!
We ordered a bunch of yummy food, passed it round and round...played with chopsticks.....I told my dad he wasn't helping kids manners when he pulled this little stunt-but he sure looked funny!!
Ha ha, what a goof!! After stuffing ourselves PF Chang's style, we moved on to birthday singing, candles and cupcakes.
He looks like he inhaled the candle in this one!
I hope and pray we have many more years of 'surprising' him, even though he just might know what's waiting for him on his birthday! Love you Pop!
