The endless entertainment options at the Pinewood Derby

The Cub Scout Pinewood Derby is an event that is looked forward to by most scouts.  Even siblings look forward to the event.  But they tend to forget that if they aren't racing a car in it themselves, the boredom sets in......really fast.

Some siblings try to entertain themselves by running around like crazy wild beasts, but some moms tend to nip that one in the bud REAL FAST.  Then, those same siblings might try to climb on top of some gym/cafeteria paraphernalia since they've watched others do it too, but some moms just march on over and tell them to GET OFF RIGHT NOW because they knows it's against the rules (despite the fact that other people's children are still doing the same thing).  When that doesn't work, those sibling typically turn to begging for food and the forever tiring phrase 'but MOM, I'm so hungry'.  Some moms are smart and bring snacks in their purse......enough to buy them 15 minutes of peace.  And when all else fails because the races aren't finished YET, some moms let the non-scout siblings take pictures with their camera.  The pictures end up looking like this:

Sometimes, even the moms even resort to picture taking to help with the 'waiting'.  Especially when the Pack Master is their husband and he looks so sweet sitting criss-cross on the floor with the scouts in a big circle while he explains the rules about the derby to them. Yep, some moms can't help themselves.

Of course there's the photos taken of the races themselves......

 Some moms have to snap that picture when their older boys are in uniform standing next to the cute Pack Master in uniform.

And then, when the races are over and the kids all get to let loose, some moms remember to snag their Cub Scout and take pictures of him with his winning trophy!

Then, entertainment revolves around cleaning up and keeping the top from blowing when all the kids are being, well, kids and running around like wild beasts.  Once it's all over with, wild beasts are too tricky to catch......so they get to be wild for a few unruly minutes...along with everyone else's wild beasts!
