After all the egg searching yesterday, my mom told all the kids to sit down on the couch with their eyes shut......Bill played it up while they were waiting by giving them some other instructions......
She took time with each of them over the next year and helped them choose more fabric for each of the quilts. Countless hours bent over the spa top cutting out a zillion squares so there would be enough for each quilt. For those of you that know about my mom's back, you know how much a LABOR of love this was. And then came Christmas 2009. Again, each one of the kids had a package that looked similar.....but inside? A completed quilt top, each sewn together in the order that each child had helped lay out during that year.

So what might they be waiting for with their eyes squeezed shut?

Their quilts!!

So eagerly anticipated, and ecstatically received!!!

She also made up a game that went with each individual quilt. Amazing she is......talented, creative........
After the evening was over, the quilts were carried off to their beds and spread out, even though the quilts are big enough for a double bed and despite the fact that the weather is warming. No way were the kids going to bed without them on their beds. These are heirlooms that they will always have, a link to the past, a cherished memory of their Nana, many many years from now. Imagine the stories they'll tell to their own children about Great Nana Harris.
Thank you so much Mom.....you are the best!!! I'm sorry I didn't inherit your skills......wanna start making some quilts for your great grand kids? You've got a good 20 years!!!
But what were they waiting for exactly?
Well, first let me back up 15 months to Christmas 2008. All the kids got a package that looked the same, but what was inside was very different. The gift contained a note from Nana telling each one of them that she was going to make a quilt for their bed. An I Spy quilt, made up of hundreds of individual squares.
