Easter's on it's way...or was....

Easter-a very important day for believers in Christ, which we are. It is also a day to pray really hard that there will be space to sit at church, which we do. And while the obvious importance of the day is to focus on the resurrection of Christ, with a house full of children, the focus often blurs and ends up on the other aspects of Easter. And while I could feel guilty that as soon as we wake in the morning the kids are clamoring about Easter eggs and as soon as we get out of mass they are clamoring about eating candy in said eggs, I have to just let it go. The days of childhood Easter egg impatience are nearly gone from our house and we don't go hog wild overboard either.

As the day winds down, it is good to know we had a really nice day, despite the stress of getting to church early enough to save my parents from the glares they tend to get from parishioners as they try in vain to save us a couple of seats. Have you ever tried to sit in church for an extra 20 minutes PLUS the hour of mass with 5 kids? Thankfully my parents love to get there early and take the older 2 with them. They can handle the extra sitting!

Easter preparations....the egg kind...started a few days ago. We dyed some eggs Friday and set them aside. Kinda funny that we take the time to color the eggs since the 'Easter bunny' doesn't even hide them. Nope, they sit in our fridge all colorful until the kids pull one out to eat. And yes, the one egg did get colored, well, pretty much black. That's what happens when you put it in every color available!


Easter preparations.....the church kind.....started early too. After finding their eggs.....


It was time to get dressed early enough to snap a few pictures before my parents headed out to church. This year there were no major tears about clothes or hair! Also no misplaced pants, shoes, belts, shirts, tights or hairbows. HOw? I'll never know!



The church parking lot was gridlock, the pews were packed, the back walls and side walls were lined with people, the sanctuary was warm, and the homily was uplifting. We were very lucky to get our favorite priest, who has the ability to give a homily we actually LIKE to hear and keeps our attention. It's easy to get distracted by restless 4 year olds, but L and L did very well in church today. Thank you God for your miracles, both small and large.

Later in the afternoon, the kids got to search for 'eggs' AKA candy, at Nana and papa's house-

but the most special part of the afternoon deserves a post all by itself....and so, we ended the day with GG's fabulous cake, decorated with figurines that she has had since my early childhood, and lots of happy smiles!
