The close up of his didn't come out very clear. Darn, I thought the new camera we got was supposed to take perfect pictures EVERY time, despite the inabililty of the owner to hold it still...and before you even have to wonder, they all did the majority of the work themselves. Bill helped them cut the shape, but painting and nail polishing was all them.
On with the day, the boys had to check their cars in at 8:30 am. Bill was one of the men running the check in and race. All cars had to be looked over to make sure all rules had been followed and they weighed in at the proper weight. I showed up at 10 with L and L when the actual races started. 39 cars, a 6 lane track and all cars ran a heat on each track. That way if one of the lanes was slower or faster than any other lane, it was fair for all participants.
The computer software they used to run the race would randomly put the list of the 6 cars together so the kids all had fun watching for their name to come up on the wall to race. Funny enough, one of the races, all 3 boys were randomly selected! So they took half of the 6 lanes...the cub master made a joke out of it and the kids were excited. This picture shows G's car in lane 2 (from your left), J's is in lane 3 and E's is in lane 5. None of them won that particular heat. Luke is in the red polo at the end of the track watching-I think the other three were to the left, out of the frame.
L and L impressed me and hung in pretty good for the duration. I think it took over an hour to run all the heats. And after all was said and done, the top 12 cars got to run against each other, so that meant those 12 cars got to rotate through the 6 lanes again! All 3 boys made it to the top 12!!!
And the final results? In his own den of Tigers, Eric placed 1st! Of the top 12 cars, he placed 12th. He was so very excited to get a trophy and be an offical participant. Last year he made a car and ran it in the friends and family race.
Gregory placed 2nd in his Webelo den and 4th in the top 12...darn camera did it again!
Thanks for coming to watch Heather-just think, only 4 more years and S and S can do it too!
