Turning 7 should be pretty easy, right? You go to bed and wake up in the morning a year older. Bam. Done. Right? Well, maybe if you grow up in someone else's house! Birthdays in our house have a few more steps included....
Step 1: Sleep while the decorating tradition commences
Conveniently, this year, Luke decided he wanted to sleep in Laurel's room. That made decorating way easier! We got the boys to help us, which they willingly did, and we blew up close to 100 balloons! Thankyousomuch air compressor!!
Step 2: Be sure to open up a few birthday gifts......
even though Daddy had to miss it since he had to be at work at the crack of dawn. But don't ask mom 32 times if there is any more to open later that day. She might get grumpy, even if it IS your birthday!
oh, and give Papa some love when he comes over to say good morning.......
Step 3: Be sure to smile for one of mom's FAVORITE photos of the year......the 'look who's one year older' picture, taken in the front yard.
Step 4: Wait for mom to drop off the birthday cake pops that she made for your class birthday snack and then pounce on her once she arrives so you can pass the treats out
QUICKLY!! Be sure to appreciate school got cancelled at 11am because the school's water well stopped working! No running water, no school!

Step 5: Continue on with some more birthday gifts after dad gets home from work......
This was an extra special gift that mom and dad and Nana and Papa went in on together....hmmm, think she knows what it is??
Step 6: Smile for some more family photos and hope that mom will eventually put the camera down. Not likely though.....
Step 7: Totally make mom's day by being very pleasantly surprised and happy when being presented with a cookie bouquet, rather than a cake, while the Happy Birthday song is sung! (I was a little worried they'd be disappointed!) The bouquets were personalized for their likes....soccer, scouts, cats and bike riding for Luke......dogs, soccer, arts and crafts and bacon for Laurel. Yes, bacon.
Step 8: Finish the sugar laden day out with a favorite meal...french toast with strawberries, bananas and whip cream!
Hard to believe that 7 years have now passed since our littlest were born-it's really become a reality that our babies are no longer babies. But then again, they will always be the babies of the family!!
Luke and Laurel, you bring sunshine and smiles to our lives everyday. You are funny and silly, smart and loving. Throw in your ability to be big stinkers and what you are is exactly what our family needs to be complete!
