Day 30 and 31 Saying good-bye to family

Day 30 and 31
Saturday June 25th and 26th

As our last full day in Willimasburg arrived, we decided that we really needed to give Colonial Williamsburg one more shot.  We convinced my brother and family to try it along with us.  After all.....had we not all gone together, we wouldn't have gotten these beauties....

or gotten the opportunity to see the world's largest breed of pigeon......ever seen one of these?  They eat them like turkeys!

or gotten to experience trying on revolutionary era clothing and hats

or enjoyed? looking absolutely ridiculous TRYING to try on revolutionary era clothing

or learned how soldiers lived while fighting a war-what they ate (bangers and mash)

 how they washed their clothes

 where they slept

and how they cooked their meals

nor would the kids have been able to pose with such authentic time era characters!

And how could a day in Colonial Williamsburg be complete without a weapons demonstration?  The troops came together, lined themselves up and showed spectators just what it meant to fire a revolutionary weapon.

 If you look across the field you might spy a yellow shirt, a red shirt and 2 pink shirts..that would be Jen, Sophia, Gregory and Me!  Bill didn't even know we were there and that he got us in the picture.

The air conditioned buses were pretty popular too, especially when little legs were tired and the heat was overwhelming.

The whole week in Williamsburg was jam packed and we know there is plenty left to see.  We'll have to go back and catch the rest another time...like when all the kids are 16 and older and have forgotten what it means to whine and complain.  Better make that older than 21.

On Sunday,we had to say good-bye to my brother and his family.  It was sad after having enjoyed the week together and how much the cousins loved getting to know each other.  Nolan and Jacob were 2 buddies the whole week, Laurel just LOVED tagging after Sophia and Luke and Alex were just too cute together.  Sigh...North Carolina is pretty far away!! With hugs and tears, we said our good-byes and pointed our van in the northerly direction of NYC.

We sure are going to miss those cute little faces!!

On our way to NYC, we saw bridges, tunnels, naval yards and plenty of traffic.....

Upon our arrival at our condo-Shawnee on the Delaware-a beautiful sunset closed out day 31!

It was the first sunset we had seen in 31 days that reminded us of home. Home `was a place we were all missing long about this point in the trip.  But SO much adventure awaits in NYC and DC!!
