It sure gets light early here on the east coast, sheesh! Probably a good thing since we needed to be up and moving with a jam packed schedule. This morning we met up with a local location photographer to have her take our family pictures. I found her through a Living Social Internet deal and was so excited to schedule an appointment! It meant more parking in Hoboken. You know how I feel about that, although it was a bit easier since our appointment was in the morning.
Our original intentions were to stop in at Carlos Bakery…you know the one…..from Cake Boss? The kids LOVE that show and were hoping to meet him. I so wanted to tell them that the chance of that was pretty darn slim. Turned out the chance was slimmer than that because when we got there the line to get in was nearly 2 blocks long. We didn’t have time to stand in the line and we promised the kids it would be a definite stop when we returned to the area at the end of the month. We did snap a couple pictures though. It felt kind of silly to be honest, but we certainly weren’t the only ones doing it! Gotta love Laurel's cheeseball 'smile', right?
After the photo shoot we went back to the hotel and ate lunch. You know, pulling out the left over Carnegie Deli sandwiches and the other goodies I bought at that scary Wal-Mart. Kinda funny to see us all perched on the end of hotel beds eating a menagerie of stuff for lunch. We didn’t waste any food, that’s for sure. Food wasting in NYC is unheard of-once you pay what you pay for stuff, even thinking of throwing anything out is painful! We loaded up the camel backs and snack backpacks and made our way to our bus stop. On today’s schedule: the Harbor tour that came with our bus tour package and the night time bus tour.
Once we pulled into the bus terminal we had to HUSTLE to make our way to the port where the Harbor cruise was leaving from. After the fact, we found out that there were other ‘port’ buses that would have delivered us there much faster. But we like to arrive places sweaty and winded!! We barely made the departure time and were VERY glad to have seats-we didn’t sit in them for long, rather made our way to the front of the boat to enjoy the views as the tour guide did his thing. Pretty incredible views and a whole lot cooler with the breeze!
The picture above shows the new Freedom Tower that sits near the original World Trade Center buildings. When finished, it will stand at a very symbolic 1,776 feet tall.
One last stop before we boarded the night time tour bus-the place we’ve visited the most while on vacation-the bathroom! That would be me sprinting back to the tour bus after taking G, L and L to the restroom. I was so worried we would miss the bus! Bill, J and E got on the bus and saved us seats.

The night tour was essentially the exact same tour as the one we took the day before, but with lights. Definitely something you only need to do ONCE! However, the Manhattan skyline was beautiful with all its twinkly lights.
It was a VERY late night and we didn’t get back to the hotel until nearly 11pm. But by now the kids seem to be used to late nights. Sad to say, but there’s not much else we can do at this point. Just go with it, right? It is much easier to think that than to do that!

Awww..New York! What memories this brings back! Carnegie Deli..didn't we eat there twice? You'll have to take the kids to that diner with the singing waiters! We didn't know about Carlo's Bakery back then, so we settled for the dry cupcakes at that one shop..I don't even remember the name. Looks like so much fun! Wish we were there with you! Hugs, Janet
