Dear Tuesday,
You used to be just another day of the week. The day after Monday, the day before Wednesday. You meant no more to me than any other day of the week and I certainly didn't get emotional over you. Nope, no time wasted at your expense.
However, times, they are a changing. While you are still the day after Monday and the day before Wednesday, you have brought new meaning to your name. Tuesday strikes a chord in our house when that name is mentioned. In fact, we all tend to get a bit emotional over you. Some of us get irritated, a few of us get frustrated, and still others, while having no personal emotional response, know you bring major issues with you and therefore the knowledge that there's a good likelihood of emotional outbursts by others. And the high probability that the loving mother of the house will turn into a pushy, snappy grump.
You see, for starters, you are library day for three children. In fact, we have to think of you on Monday when three children are running around looking for their library books to return. Some Tuesday mornings bring about finger pointing and wild accusations when said library books can't be found. And it's typically only 7:30am. Next, you are religious education day for the third grader. A child who finishes school, gets whisked away by a friend and dropped at church just about the time he normally is just getting off the bus! It means late dinners that are often spoiled by well meaning religious ed teachers feeding the third grader snacks in an attempt to keep his attention on his lesson rather than his rumbly tummy.
Inevitably, you are the day that one of my children gets loads of homework dumped on him, causing him to flip out at the simplest of proddings wile simultaneously bringing about outbursts of 'I can't make it to soccer practice, I have too much to do'. You are the day two of my children have Boy Scouts and once again, we have to think of you a day ahead of time as they gather up 3 ring binders, scout homework and uniforms so they can put them into the car meeting them at Scouts so they can change out of soccer clothes and into the uniforms at the end of soccer practice.
You are the day that has brought wonderful friends to the rescue as they carpool a couple of my kids from soccer to scouts and another child from school to CCD and CCD to the park where I pull in with wheels a blazing after dropping 2 kids off at soccer at one park and then picking 2 kids up at a different park. You force me to think and write in run-on sentences. You are the day that leaves my house in shambles despite my best efforts at being ahead of your needs. You make me scratch my head as I try to figure out what nutrition I can hurriedly plunk down in front of my kids...never at the same time mind you. Oh no, meal time on your day takes place over many hours. You are the day that leaves the father of my children waiting to eat dinner until 9:15 at night when he finally stumbles in with soccer gear and scouts in tow. And my kitchen is always a wreck.
Tuesday, darn you Tuesday. While you will ALWAYS be a part of our lives, I am quite thankful that I only have 2 more of you to contend with before some of the dread you bring with your name will leave us. Until the Spring at least. And then I'll dislike you ALL OVER AGAIN.
Is it Wednesday yet?
