3 Birthdays to celebrate!

I suppose I should have said 4 birthdays, but we tend to count L and L's as one. I know, bad parenting...simple math. April is a busy birthday month, with my grandma's falling one day after Laurel and Luke's, Bill's comes 4 days after, and Bill's mom's is toward the end of the month. It has become tradition to celebrate them all on one day with a family BBQ.......
But first, gifts. Food can wait because 5 year olds have no patience for waiting when wrapped packages are within view! GG was excited too, but at age 85, she has most definitely learned the gift of patience! The thrill of a gift card is written ALL over Laurel's face!
Luke was so happy with his 'live' tiger cub. It's on of those real type stiffed animals that makes noise and such. This one purrs and meows and has a bottle to feed it with when it's hungry. Luke loves to pretend he is a cat and has purrfected his meow. Such a fun gift from nana and papa.
Now GG, she's a tough cookie to shop for. Not because she is hard to buy for...oh no, are you kidding me? We could have brought her back a bag of dirt from our trip to Carlsbad Caverns and she would have been pleased as punch that we had thought of her while we were there. No, it's just that besides photographs and food, there's not much she really needs! So we gave her something silly to make her smile. Little Miss Sunshine...she sings some cute silly songs and GG loved it!
The last gifts of the day required the 'close your eyes' instructions. Bill had to play around with them.....similar to the Easter post a few days back......
No, the gift wasn't 2 bags of chips!! How about we try this again-
Yep, we're crazy-scooters. 2 of them. We are prepared for tears and scrapes and bruises. But they were pretty darn excited! However, right after being excited about it, Laurel asked if she could eat the bag of chips. What a nut!!
Laurel showed her toughness....she pushed Daddy around on a bike made for toddlers. Goofy they both are!
After gifts, playtime and dinner...hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade potato salad, fruit salad and guacamole, we finished the evening up with singing Happy Birthday 3 times. We sang to GG first,
Bill second...
And L and L third. Typically we sing to each of them but by the time we were on to round three of the song, they got to enjoy a combo version. And no complaints were heard!
There is one last celebration for them, their actual birthday party with friends. Funny thing is, they still don't know when or where it going to be! They haven't pushed for details, amazingly, all that much and because we didn't invite their whole preschool class, I didn't want them talking about it in class. You know 5 year olds, they have no shame and no mute button! I think they're getting a bit more ancy about it the past couple days...but if I can keep it on the low down for another day, get through preschool tomorrow, then I'll tell them! Chuck E Cheese......look out, here we come. Early, plenty early. That's the ONLY time to go there, 9:30 in the morning, before all the crazy kids arrive.
