It's beginning to look a lot like...

After our trip to the dentist's office yesterday, it's beginning to look a lot like pre-adolescence around here. Gregory was fitted with his first pre-orthodontic mouth appliance.......this is what he thinks about it- Thankfully he is taking it in stride-especially since the thing makes him talk really funny, like he's got a severe lisp. He'll break out in a grin after some gentle pokes from us after he talks and sounds just so darn funny! Hopefully he'll get off the bus smiling too.

The goal of the device is to correct a cross bite he's got that's keeping one of his front adult teeth from being able to move into its proper position. An expander is built into the retainer too in case he needs a little extra space. With fingers crossed, our dentist hinted that after this, his mouth might be OK and might not need braces. That will just be down right incredible if it plays that way! Because after hearing how much this retainer cost, the thought of braces sends our checking account into hiding.....permanently! I about hit the floor when she told me how much......$1200! In the mouth of a 10 year old...who has to wear it all the time but take it out to brush it after he eats....at school.

Needless to say he has been warned within an inch of his life that if he loses it he won't be getting another.....we're still waiting to find out how much insurance will cover. Knowing dental insurance, it won't be much. And Jacob needs one too. Que Sera Sera....
