The big 6-5

My dad celebrated his birthday last week. As a kid, it must have stunk to have a birthday so close to Christmas. His special day is December 23rd. We try to do our best to make it a day truly about his birthday, and this year was no exception. My in-laws watched all the kids and we were able to go out and enjoy dinner with my parents.

As we sat there and ate (without having to cut anyone's food up or intervene in a lapse in manners moment) we tried to remember the last time we went out just the 4 of us and we figured it may well have been before G and J were born....that's a long time!!
After dinner we went to a UNM vs NMSU college basketball game. The only 2 major colleges in the state, this game is always played to a packed house and is very LOUD!! We donned our Lobo red sweatshirts...yes, it looks empty but only because we were there really early.

And then we waited for the best part of the game...the beginning! The music is loud, the atmosphere is crazy and it always makes me smile. (I couldn't get the video to upload right here so it's at the end of this entry)

Bill and I both graduated from UNM, so we of course have gone to games for a long time. This is what part of the student section looked like on this evening.

They were all holding newspapers while the NMSU team was being introduced!

Lobo college basketball is also a tradition on my dad's side of the family....Lobo basketball tickets have been in the family for many MANY years and my dad still is owner of the same 2 seats that my grandparents sat in years ago. Pretty neat! Hopefully it is a tradition that will continue on. Our kids all look forward to the one or two games they get to go to each season

Happy Birthday Pop........ready for another round of chocolate mousse pie?
