Earning the ouch

It was something she had been waiting for. And waiting for.  And waiting for.  Since Christmas in fact.  She opened up a little box with a note and some little earrings, telling her that she was going to get her ears pierced!

And then I remembered that soccer season was only 8 weeks away and we couldn't take the earrings out for games.  So she had to wait until the end of spring soccer.  That's a long time to wait when you are a little girl looking forward to getting your ears pierced!  The only way she earned the privilege to begin with was when she stopped chewing her nails!

So on May 12th, we made our way to the mall and began the process of what hopefully was going to be a good experience.  She was all smiles, that's for sure!

still smiling.....
even after they cleaned her ears and marked them, still smiling....
and then she saw them unwrapping the tool that looked like a glorified clothing tagging gun.....the smile faded a smidge......
but she's our brave girl and the smile returned quickly once she discovered that the pinch wasn't so bad!  Now mind you, this is the girl that rolls up her sleeve and asks for the shots at the doctors office while her brothers are hiding under the table!
Ta-Da!  New sparklies on her pretty little ears-
Thankfully there has been little drama since in terms of healing.  There have been a few 'ewww, gross, why did THAT come out of my ear?' moments, but all in all, it has so far been a fun experience for her.  In fact, Gregory bought her 2 pair of earrings this weekend.  It was pretty sweet, he took her over to a craft fair booth and let her pick out 2 pair.

Even if they are a bit bigger than I'd like for her, how could I say no to that?? Guess that kid is pretty sweet sometimes!  He definitely has a soft spot for his sister.
